Why Rwanda
Kigali: a secure, well-run base for the continent's art.
We chose Rwanda for its institutions, not its market size. Demand will come from across Africa and the diaspora; Kigali offers the stability, speed and legal foundations a freeport needs.
Five reasons
01
Ease of doing business
Rwanda consistently ranks among the easiest places in Africa to start and run a company. Registration with the Rwanda Development Board is online and fast.
02
A free-zone framework already exists
Rwanda has a legal framework for special economic zones and free-zone status, including the Kigali Special Economic Zone. That gives a bonded or free-zone art facility a legal path, which we are confirming with the authorities.
03
Air connectivity
Art moves by air, so being landlocked matters little. RwandAir is expanding its routes and a new international airport is under construction at Bugesera, intended to become a regional hub.
04
Security and low corruption
Rwanda is known for order, safety and low corruption. For a facility holding irreplaceable, high-value works, that counts for a great deal.
05
Finance and culture
The Kigali International Financial Centre brings family offices and private banks within reach, and Kigali’s gallery and artist community is growing year by year.
Pan-African by design
Built in Kigali, serving the continent.
Our clients are in Lagos, Nairobi, Johannesburg, Accra, Cairo, Casablanca and Kigali, and in London, Paris and New York. Partner locations in established logistics and finance hubs complement the Kigali base.
Regulatory points on this page reflect our current understanding and are being confirmed with Rwandan counsel, the Rwanda Development Board and the Rwanda Revenue Authority. Nothing here is legal or tax advice. Africa Freeport does not yet hold free-zone or bonded status.
